Antique Ceramics - 159 result(s)

There has been a long history of ceramic production in Britain, but it was the late C18th and C19th which saw a great change. Improved transport infrastructure gave the potters access to a much wider market and advances in production techniques enables a larger output. World famous names began to appear.
Stoke-on-Trent was and is the main centre for manufacture and famous factories like Wedgwood, Spode, Copeland, Minton and Doulton expanded and became household names. (Graham Mitchell - Antiques Dealer at Hemswell)

Smaller centres are equally well known with Worcester and Derby both producing superb porcelain.
In the North East of England, Maling established a large manufacturing base and produced much fine and sought after pottery. At the other end of the country, the potteries of South Devon enjoyed their heyday, with Longpark, Allervale, Torquay and Watcombe being the best know.
This has enabled the enthusiast and collector an opportunity to pick and choose their field of collection and interest in a way practically unknown elsewhere in the World, from the inexpensive mass produced wares to the expensive hand made porcelains.
The World is their oyster. (Graham Mitchell - Antiques Dealer at Hemswell)
