Description

A solid sterling silver cased bearing Birmingham hallmarks for 1900 with a makers mark of AB on behalf of the Waltham Watch Co. Ltd. Case is in good condition with some surface scratching commensurate with age, and some previous inspection marks.

All hinges and bezels are in good order. Pull open the rear cover to reveal the watch winding aperture. Inside the rear and on the movement cover, a little light pitting to the silver and a very small amount of black spotting, with the case having a serial number present of 169. The rear cover has more than half engine turning present having a blank car touché. the rear cover does have a little amount of minor denting present.

The dial is in fantastic condition and being free from hairline cracks or chipping to the edge of the dial. Dial is white with black Roman numerals and sub second dial present. All hands are present and are in excellent condition with the hour and minute hands being gold with the second hand being blue steel in colour.

Complete with glass replacement crystal, clear and free of scratches, a silver bow is in good condition secure positioning.

The movement is a Full plate 7 jewelled movement with split bimetallic balance having a Breguet hairspring running the full length of the wind, and keeping good time, +/- 2 minutes a day or better. The watch has been fully serviced with the balance having a good working action in all positions. This is a grade Export model 1876 being 14s in size. The gilding remains in very good condition with a couple of very light scratches present and is free from any corrosion.

On the movement seen serial number of 8089967 putting the year of manufacture to circa 1896. Watch is key wound and set and a replacement key is supplied with the watch.

The watch is in good working order, keeping reasonably good time, bench tested for 5 days with a serviced. Given the age of the watch, the timing stated cannot be guaranteed, and further adjustments may be necessary to improve the performance stated.
