Hemswell Antiques Centre is officially one of the Best Antiques Centres!

Hemswell Antiques Centre was named as one of the top two antique centres in the country at a special ceremony in London.
AN antiques business in Lincolnshire has once again been recognised as one of the top centres in the whole of the UK.
It was announced that Hemswell Antique Centres was officially the second best antique centres in the country at a special ceremony in London.
It is the second time Hemswell has been shortlisted for an award by the Homes and Antiques magazine.
Last year it won through to the top five places for Antiques Centre of the Year.
Hemswell , near Gainsborough, which has the largest selection of antiques dealers in Europe, was one of 25 businesses across the country to be shortlisted for the prize.
It caps a busy and successful year for the centre, which houses items from around 300 dealers from the UK, France, Australia, Ireland and Spain.
The company, opened in 1986, recently announced new expansion plans for its former RAF base home.
Managing director Robert Miller purchased the Guardroom, a building at the entrance to the site, for an undisclosed fee and now plans to invest a significant sum in refurbishing the building.
The expansion plans will add a further 75 dealers to the Hemswell family and add an extra 6,000sq foot. Plans include an extra floor and a new atrium-style roof.
Last year Mr Miller launched a Japanese language website and undertook a trade mission to the Far East.
“We are delighted to have been highlighted again in these national awards,” said Mr Miller.
“It’s another feather in the cap for Lincolnshire, with the county featuring more and more in national awards with every year that goes by.
“We hope the profile that Hemswell gets will encourage more people to visit the county. On top of that the recognition is a just reward for all the staff here who work so hard to make the experience a positive one for all our customers.
“Last year we were in the top five and highly commended, and this year we were named as runner up and regained our highly commended status, so we will be working hard to go one better next year.”
Hemswell’s highly commended status was announced at The Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair in Battersea, London last week (Thurs 25th)
The centre sells a vast range of period furniture, paintings, porcelain, silver, lighting, kitchenware, mirrors, jewellery, books, prints and a unique collection of clocks. An extensive selection of good useable antique furniture, such as bedroom suites and dining tables and chairs, are also available.
Thank you for your vote

New Guardroom Opens for Hemswell Antique Centres!

The biggest antique business in Europe has extended even further with the opening of a brand new centre.
Hemswell Antique Centres has unveiled its brand new Guardroom building after months of building work.
The project represents a significant investment by MD Robert Miller and has created ten new jobs at the Hemswell-based business.
The two-storey Guardroom houses 80 new dealers from across the UK, Ireland, Spain and France – half of whom are new dealers to Hemswell – as well as a brand new coffee shop.
Antiques on show range from a pikeman’s armour from the 1630s, to a 1925 electric car from Blackpool pleasure beech, to a vintage retro section.
The Guardroom opened to the public for the first time on 27th December.
“It was a redundant building that needed new life breathing into it and that is what we have achieved,” said Mr Miller.
“The new building is the gateway to the site. It’s created a real wow factor for people coming to Hemswell and should be a positive step for all businesses here.
“It has taken a lot of investment and a lot of time to get the building to the point it’s at today but it’s been worth it. We are confident the Guardroom will attract thousands of new visitors to Hemswell.”
The design of the new building, with its atrium style central area, was inspired by a trade visit to Japan carried out by Mr Miller last year.
The company currently exports around seven per cent of its goods to the Far East – around 30 per cent of its entire overseas trade – and launched a new Japanese language website to capitalise on growth in this region.
Hemswell Antique Centres, which was established in 1986, already boasted items from 300 dealers across three other buildings at its former RAF base home.
The work on the Guardroom was carried out by Stow-based building company The Gelder Group.

The Guardroom Official Opening

A NEW development at Europe’s biggest antiques centre has been heralded as a triumph of combining heritage with modern design. The new Guardroom at Hemswell was praised by councillors, and retired servicemen who had been stationed at the former base, at the centre’s official opening. The 52 ex-servicemen had made a special trip to see the unveiling of the two-storey building where many had worked during the 40’s, 50s and 60s. They were among dozens of VIPs, dealers, staff and invited guests who celebrated the culmination of months of hard work on the redevelopment of the building. The project represents a significant investment by Hemswell Antiques MD Robert Miller and has created ten new jobs. The Guardroom houses 80 new dealers from across the UK, Ireland, Spain and France – half of whom are new dealers to Hemswell – as well as a brand new coffee shop. “It was a redundant building that needed new life breathing into it and that is what we have achieved,” said Mr Miller. “It’s been a lot of hard work and has required a significant investment to create such an iconic building but it’s been well worth it. The reaction and footfall have already been exceptionally positive. “We are proud that we are retaining the fantastic heritage of this former RAF base but bringing the buildings up to date. It’s the best way to ensure our history is preserved.” Bill Collard, 83, from Brentwood – who served at Hemswell during the 1950s – cut the ribbon at the ceremony and told the assembled guests how delighted he was that the original buildings were being retained. “We are absolutely delighted with the work Robert has done here. It is helping to keep our unit alive,” he said. “This site used to reverberate to the sound of Merlin engines and though it may be rather quieter these days the entrepreneurs who have taken over at Hemswell have replaced that with the buzz of a busy antiques centre. “We are delighted these old buildings have been redeveloped in such a magnificent way.” The design of the new building, with its gallery style central area, was inspired by a trade visit to Japan carried out by Mr Miller last year. HEMSWELL IN JAPAN

An explosion of trade with the Far East has persuaded a Lincolnshire company to promote its business in Japan.
Hemswell Antique Centres has worked with the UKTI to develop a new Japanese language website. A visit to the country to promote the new site has taken place by the managing director Robert Miller.
Hemswell was prompted to take the step after a growing number of its antiques were being bought by dealers in the region.
The company currently exports around seven per cent of its goods to the Far East – around 30% of its entire overseas trade.
Buyers do purchase goods across the whole range of antique goods but furniture, in particular, is selling extremely well.
Hemswell has even been approached by a leading Chinese businessman to provide the furniture for a new village being built in the country.
The new website http://www.hemswell-antiques.com/jp/ was developed over eight months by county-based web company TJS with the help of a professional translator.
It is the first in a series of phased developments by Hemswell into the market. Sites for Korea and China are planned in the coming months.
“This does represent a significant investment but the developments are about building for the future. I want to see the business grow its worldwide reach,” says Mr Miller.
“The UK market is difficult at the moment while parts of the world are still experiencing growth. Naturally the global economy will continue to change and it’s important that we don’t put all of our eggs in one basket. Overseas business has become very important to us. We recently had buyers from as many as 20 different countries through our doors in one week. But it’s vital that we continue to focus on providing excellent service and relationships with these clients and the new website and our planned visit to Tokyo is an important part of that process.”
