25 Years of Hemswell Antique Centres

Hemswell Antique Centres in Lincolnshire was established back in 1986, and celebrated 25 Years with a Barbecue on 5th August 2011.
This was held outside in the garden of the centre’s coffee shop, and over 160 attended which included resident dealers and guests. Luckily the weather held out and it was a lovely dry evening, the night before being thunder storms and flooding
Everyone enjoyed the canapés and barbecue, and the Pimms and wine was flowing into the evening.
Near the end of the evening Robert Miller, the owner of Hemswell Antique Centres made a speech thanking everybody for attending on such a lovely night, and presented Esme Cocks, the Building Two manager with flowers and a gift to celebrate her 25 years working for the organisation.
Robert also presented Anne Paterson, the Building One manager with flowers and a card as a thankyou for helping with the preparation for the evening.
This highly successful and enjoyable evening went on until late, and most people only left when either the lights went out or the drinks ran out!
Here are a selection of photographs, with more on the following newsreel.

Eric Knowles Opened New Extension

Due to continued success and an ever growing waiting list for space at Hemswell Antique Centres, a decision was made to extend Building One to create 24 new furniture display areas and 12 new cabinets to help cope with the demand. Work begun in early September 2010 and was completed in the middle of December. The dealers in the stunning new area were ready for business on the 15th December and have been continually busy over Christmas and the New Year.

On the 24th February 2011 an official opening took place, complete with cutting of a ribbon and unveiling of a plaque, all conducted by renowned antiques expert Eric Knowles. Eric stayed for most of the day, talking to visitors and also looking around at the vast array of quality antiques and collectables on offer at the Centres.

Please click on the image to see photographs of the new area, or why not just come and have a look?

Denby Range Display

The only known collection of plates from virtually all the main-stream patterns produced by the Denby Pottery is now installed as part of the Stoneware Quest display stand in Building Three. Originally shown at an Antique Centre in Ripley, Derbys, for a number of years, it has been augmented and re-displayed here at Hemswell, an unique resource for identification and research into tableware design from the 1950's to present day.
Over the next few months it will also include the current designs, providing the Denby collector with an unarguably good reason for visiting perhaps the broadest based collection of Denby Pottery in the East of England.
A further project will see examples of all the main decorative ranges produced by the Pottery in its 'J Bourne & Sons' guise during the 1920's, 30's and 40's displayed within the same area.
