Description
Good example of “The Countie and Citie of Lyncolne Described”, a historically important map of Lincolnshire created by the master English cartographer John Speed (1552–1629) and engraved by the famous Dutch cartographer Jodocus Hondius.
From an edition of John Speed's The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine. When Speed published his atlas, he printed historical and geographical text on the back of each map sheet so that when the atlas was bound as a book, a reader could read about the county before turning the page to view its map.
