Description
A charming and finely executed 19th Century English School portrait depicting an elegant young lady dressed in a fashionable black silk gown with delicate lace sleeves, a sheer lace cap adorned with pale blue ribbons and a matching blue fichu tied neatly at her neck.
Painted in oil, the sitter is shown against a dark atmospheric background, allowing her porcelain complexion and striking blue-grey eyes to stand out beautifully.
The costume suggests a date of approximately 1835–1850, placing the portrait in the late Regency to early Victorian period.
The painting remains in its attractive gilt frame and is ready for display.
There is a small hole/loss to the paint surface in the background to the left of the sitter, which is clearly shown in the accompanying close-up photographs and does not detract significantly from the overall presentation.
