James Smithies of Wilmslow Arts & Crafts copper jug. Featuring leaf and dot design and similar studded pattern to the bottom. Makers mark to base of jug. Circa 1890.
James Smithies was Born in Middleton, Lancashire and was the son of James Smithies (born c.1836 in Middleton, Lancashire), a small-scale silk manufacturer. James originally started work as a decorative painter and then ran a successful art metalwork business specialising in beaten copper and repoussé work in Manchester Road, Wilmslow.
