Description

John Wardale Co of London, Surveyors Altimeter/Barometer.
It was produced by John Wardale Co of London and is dated on the dial 1916 with a serial number 1644.

The instrument measures 11.5cm diameter and 5cm deep with a Bevel edged glass face plate and a silvered dial. The case is lacquered brass and you will find a adjuster screw on the back plate with the British broad arrow stamp. There is a substantial brass ring attached to the top of the case for mounting.

It comes in its original brown leather case with shoulder strap.
This instrument appears in good working order and would have probably seen service in action in World War I.

The leather case stamped with R G A – Royal Garrison Artillery, this branch responsible for coastal defence, heavy artillery, and siege batteries, particularly during World War I.

Also stamped is 166: This is a unit or inventory number. In British military practice, such numbers often referred to: Battery or Company Number: For example, the "166th Siege Battery" or "166th Company" within the RGA.

Please view the photographs carefully as they are part of the description. If you require any further photo's or details please contact a member of the Team in Building 1.
