Description
Original late George III period mahogany pot cupboard or bedside cabinet known as a Lancashire Commode, in the style typically made by Gillows of Lancaster. The top shelf lifts up, and the seat lifts up to show a void that would have been used for a commode. Obviously not used as this today, but ideal as a unique bedside table or lamp table, with room for books below. This cabinet does show signs of wear, this is over 200 years old, so do not expect a 'new' antique, though it is in very good, clean condition with some age wear. Completely original and unrestored, a good, useable piece of antique furniture. Circa late 18th /early 19th Century. Beautiful!
