Description
12cm tall circa 1880 late Victorian cast bronze ink well in the form of a red squirrel with nut brown glass eyes holding a nut that is standing on a naturalistic bronze base featuring branches and leafs. The squirrels head is hinged and opens to reveal a void that the ink well liner would have sat but this is sadly missing. The rich warm patina and quality bronze casting is superbly detailed with the fur very well represented the more you look the more you see. The bronze is unmarked and is possibly French or Austrian.
