Description

A Victorian Silver and cut Glass Cayenne Pepper Pot, Birmingham circa 1850, with an internal long spoon.

*** Cayenne Pepper was first named by herbalist Nicholas Culpepper in the 1652. The term describes a capsicum 10-15mm long with a curved tip generally with a SHU ( Scottsville Heat Unit ) rating of 30-50,000 units. During the Victorian period as cuisine became ever more sophisticated dining accoutrements developed to cater for expanding tastes.
