A stunning fossil ammonite from the Jurassic period, Upper Sinemurian age, North Lincolnshire.
A Wonderful collection and interior design specimen.This specimen has been prepared to expose the first 4 internal chambers revealing the internal structure throughout the specimen. These chambers aid buoyancy when sealed by the creature as it grows.
Fossils from this location are highly sought after due to the fabulous calcite preservation, detail, colours and place in ammonite evolutionary history.
Ammonoids are a group of extinct marine mollusc. These molluscs, commonly referred to as ammonites, are more closely related to living coleoids (octopuses, squid, and cuttlefish) than they are to shelled nautiloids such as the Nautilus species still living in the oceans today.. The earliest ammonites appear during the Devonian age (358 > 419 million years ago) and the last species vanished in the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event.
