Description
Circa late 1st century AD.
This distinctive lamp, with a scallop shell discus, has somewhat residual volutes at the neck of the nozzle, which still shows traces of burning.
Ex German private collection
The nineteenth century auction label on the base of the lamp wrongly identifies the lamp as Greek. By the label it would appear that the lamp was found in 'Lefkosi' (Nicosia) Cyprus, sometime in the nineteenth century.
