Description

A good group of forty antique Victorian carte de visite CDV or visiting cards. They were invented by Frenchman André Adolphe Eugène Disdéri in 1854, and became hugely popular in Europe in the 1860's. They were the size of a visiting card, and are an early example of social media as people exchanged them with family and friends. These are an all female group, some are portraits and others are full length images. A few have the photograpers details to the front as well as more decorative photographic studio information to the reverse. Lots of different photograpers from London to Kings Lynn and abroad.
