Description

A fabulous and rare antique first edition book titled 'The Most Notable Antiquity of Great Britain Vulgarly Called Stone-Heng on Salisbury Plain' by Inigo Jones. Published in 1655. Printed by James Fletcher for Daniel Pakeman at the sign of the Rainbow in Fleet Street, and Laurence Chapman next door to the Fountain Tavern in the Strand. This leather bound copy with owners handwritten name inside. It is complete with all illustrations and fold out maps. A portrait image of Inigo Jones to frontspiece, he was a notable architect. Inigo Jones concluded in this book that Stonehenge was not built by the ancient Britons, but by the Romans. The leather binding has been professionally treated by a Conservator.
