Susanna Margaretta ‘Daisy’ Makeig-Jones was an influential pottery designer for Wedgwood, renowned for her Fairyland Lustre series, which appeared shortly after she became a full-time designer in 1914. She masterfully combined underglaze variegation, overglaze grain, and iridescence with intricate gilded designs, creating a completely new and captivating style in stoneware.
The first ten lustre series, including this bowl (pattern Z4832), showcased Daisy’s innovative use of color and design. These early pieces, produced between 1914 and 1929, have become collectors' items due to their unique artistic qualities and limited production. Daisy's work, characterized by vivid imagination and technical skill, is increasingly sought after, making her pieces not only artistic treasures but also worthwhile investments.
