Description
It features a circular glass top that appears to "float" within a slender brass-toned rim or surround. The sculptural frame is made of black ebonised steel with tripod legs that curve inward and cross at the center. Three brass ball finials (or orbs) sit at the central cross of the base, echoing the atomic scientific imagery popular in the 1950s following the 1951 Festival of Britain.
This iconic piece was designed by the Polish-British artist and cybernetic pioneer Edward Ihnatowicz for Mars Furniture during the 1950s. Originally retailed by Heals of London.
