English skeleton clock by Evans of Handsworth

Superb quality English skeleton clock in an Arabesque style by William Frederick Evans of Hansworth Birmingham. Evans factory was in Soho st and was active from 1803 until 1934. This clock has six spoke wheelwork and twin fussee movement on chains. It has passing strike on the half hours on a bell and full strike on a gong at the hour, with a pull repeat of the last hour. The plates of this clock are extremely finely finished and the dial is engraved brass then silvered. Evans used an Ebony pendulum rod with pewter bob on his clocks to compensate for temperature errors. Evans never seemed to sign his clocks as retailers preferred their own names on skeleton clocks . This clock was made c1875.
