An Early 19th Century Cast Iron Lion. The lion in the form of the St Marks, Medici Lion.
The beast standing, looking forward, with its right paw holding a ball, and his long tail wrapping around his right rear leg.
The whole on a rectangular plinth base.
The Medici lions are a pair of marble sculptures of lions, one of which is of ancient origin.
The other a 16th-century pendant both were by 1598 placed at the Villa Medici, Rome, and since 1789 have been displayed at the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence.
