A fine pair of Georgian flintlock pistols by Stephen Sandwell in original condition, with canon barrels, the London Gunmakers proof marks are concealed under the inner ramrod pipe on each pistol, These marks include a crown with SS which is the makers mark. The pair are complete with horn tipped ramrod and unloading rod, they have silver inlaid English walnut grips with a silver boss in the form of a head which is also stamped SS for the maker. Both have a good working action with very strong springs The lock plates are engraved and signed Sandwell London also the hammers and trigger guards are engraved. Stephen Sandwell was apprenticed to John Bumford in 1757 then worked as a Master Gunmaker from 1770-1810
