Description

A Mamluk period ceramic vase. Purchased from a reputable antique dealer, who in turn acquired these from an estate of a middle eastern collector. Uncatalogued, I purchased these as Safavid empire but stylistically they resemble vases from the Mamluk empire Circa 17th Century. They were made to mimic Chinese blue and white porcelain, only using local symbolism. They are roughly made in relatively uncontrolled kilns. This why the glaze runs, through over firing and is very much part of their charm.
