Description

Mid-Nineteenth Century Vernis Martin and Papier-Mâché Table Snuff Box.
The lid is hand-painted with a beautiful, rich floral bouquet including a large central white and red cabbage rose, bluebells, and delicate foliage.
The box features the famous "Vernis Martin" (Martin varnish) technique, a French method of replicating Asian lacquerwork. It displays a radiant, translucent golden ground built up over multiple layers of clear varnish.
