Description

Victorian Butlers / Servants Six Room indicator Signal Box. This is a lovely example of a Victorian or early Edwardian 6 room butlers or servants box. The indication allows the butler or servant to know where their service are required and when the button is pressed in the room, the flag rocket from side to side to alert the staff which area requires their attendance ie  Bedroom 1, Bedroom 2, Lounge, Dining Room, Front Door or Back Door. It marks a time when ladies and gentlemen had staff in the home to look after their domestic needs. The construction of the box is typical of Victorian craftsmen, with dovetail joints, brass fittings and finished in Victorian Mahogany. Condition  - Very good used condition. It's worth noting that when I acquired the servants box it had been painted white, infact I removed 5 layers of white paint and 1 of green paint. The indicating stars have been replaced, but I've left the old ones pinned inside the box. The wires are all in place and it wouldn't take a qualified electrician long to get the box up and running again (getting the  servants might take a little longer). Estimated age (late 1800s / early 1900s). Approximate Measurements Width 34cm ( 13 1/2 inches) Depth 8 cm ( 3 1/4 inches) Height 27.5 cm ( 10 3/4 inch) Weight 2.5kg
