Description

19th Century Chinese Watercolour on pith pape of a Chinese man wearing a blue jacket. Accomplished and delicately painted.
Europeans while travelling in China in the 19th Century would collect small watercolour paintings showing Chinese everyday activities
These would be painted on ‘pith’ paper which is made from the inner pith of a shrub called Tetrapanex papyrifera, native to S China and Taiwan.
Height 23cms. Width 18cms
Plastic frame.
Please note the condition: Sold as seen. The frame is plastic. There is discolouration and marks to the print + age related wear consistent with age and use.
