Description

This exquisite 19th century pastel portrait depicts a lady identified as Mrs Shaw, executed by the renowned artist John Seymour Lucas, RA. The work is signed with the artist's monogram and dated 1892, showcasing his transition from historical subjects to high society portraiture. The sitter is rendered with soft, ethereal textures typical of the pastel medium, adorned with a yellow rose at her bodice. It remains in its original oval gilt frame, which is intricately decorated with a laurel wreath motif and ribbon and bow cresting.
