Description

Framed Engraving of the North View of Lincoln Palace. Titled "The North View of Lincoln Palace taken From the Top of the Minster" and was created in 1726 by the brothers Samuel and Nathaniel Buck. The print is part of their series of engravings called "Buck's Antiquities".

The engraving shows the Lincoln Medieval Bishop's Palace, which was at the time of the print's creation largely a ruin. The engraving is dedicated to Richard Reynolds, who was the Bishop of Lincoln from 1723 to 1743.

Text on the engraving reads : THIS once Magnificent Episcopal Palace, fit being so stiled to Distinguish it from these aille Manners) was built by Remegius de Fischamp First Br. of Lincoln, cafter being these authone stephens Wars, was granted to Ret de Cheney of ý Foundation, and went a great way in carrying it on. Hugh Burgundian began the Noble Call, which was Finish'è by Hugh Wallis, che also built ý Spacious Kitchen the great Fener and Gate House were raind by The Beck B whose Arms remain on the Wall. The antient Bishops of Lincoln being possest of 32 of the best Manners in England, were immens ty rich and able both to build fill such ich Palaces Palaces, wherein wherein they were attended by Knights and voung Roblemen of the best best Families Families were were deathed in purple purple and Servdat Table in gole.
