Description

An original antique chromolithograph, one of the famous advertising images used by the Pears Soap Company.

This is after a painting titled 'The Sunny South' by famous artist William Stephen Coleman and portrays a woman and her young daughter on a terrace overlooking the sea. The woman is working on a piece of needlework whilst the child lies asleep on a cushion with a feather fan beside her. On the wall behind is a very lifelike brightly coloured oriental rug and a blue ceramic plate below. There are vases of flowers behind them and to the right, that one standing on a column labelled 'PEARS'. Beyond are the white buildings of a Mediterrean town and a turquoise sea.

This chromolithograph was published in 1898 and accompanied the Pears Christmas Annual of that year.

It is printed on paper and is in excellent original condition.

Well presented in a stunning 19th century decorated gilt wood frame with carved decoration. The frame is in excellent condition.

Glazed and ready to hang. Very clean and tidy verso.
