Description

A handsome and substantial French bookcase or display cabinet dating from the late 19th century, circa 1880. The piece is constructed using rich figured walnut, a wood prized for its beautiful grain patterns. The cabinet is presented in the Neoclassical style, popular during the Third Republic era. The upper section is fitted with two glazed doors, designed to protect and display the contents within. These doors are fully functional, retaining their original working locks and key. The doors are dramatically flanked by architectural fluted columns, which emphasise the vertical lines of the piece. These columns are crowned with finely carved capitals.
This has been restored to a very high standard.
