Description

A superb Satinwood serpentine shaped Desk with Rosewood crossbanding and fine line detail through out, the Gilt Bronze mounts are of high quality casting each Ormolu drawer pull also acts as an escutcheon plate and is edged with Rosewood, the legs sweep and taper to a Gilt cast Foot. Re-tailed by S & H Jewell High Holborn. English Circa 1840 109cm wide x 74cm tall x 64cm deep S and H Jewell were fine quality cabinet makers who were established in 1830. They were a family business who worked from their premises at Little Queen Street, Holborn, in London and then later to Parker Street, London. They are recorded to have sold furniture to the Arts and Crafts home, Standen House, East Grinstead, Sussex and stated on the receipt dated 1st May 1894, states the company was founded in 1830 but there are not many records of their earlier pieces. They also restored early pieces of antiques and resold them in their London shop.
