This magnificent piece is a highly ornate Bureau du Roi (King's Desk), a masterpiece of French furniture design in the Louis XV style. This specific design is modelled after the legendary 18th-century cylinder desk original, which was commissioned by King Louis XV for his private study at the Palace of Versailles.
The desk features a cylinder roll-top that retracts to reveal a complex interior of drawers and cubbies. It is renowned for its intricate marquetry (wood inlay) depicting symbolic trophies, musical instruments, and educational items.
