Based on the 14th Century Canterbury Tales by Chaucer recounting a Pilgrimage to Canterbury and the characters on their journey..
The print dedicated to His Royal Highness The Prince Regent by Elizabeth Cromek. Widow of R H Cromek (Robert Cromek, publisher and commissioner of the original painting)There was ongoing controversy at the time of the painting between William Blake and the artist as to the composition of the painting.
