Description

Tribal kilim that would originally have been woven to fit the base layer in the yurt of this nomadic tribe the Belouchi. Woven in strips with simple adornment and shapes, knots to fend off the evil eye and colours like the rich madder, bursts of saffron used in very small quantities as expensive and of course the natural sheep colour, all items that would have been affordable and accessible for these tribal folk. This piece is a classic example of when antique or vintage kilims work in either a contemporary setting like a modern barn conversion or a classic antique home. The weavers show great skill in their layout of design, motfis and simplicity and balance.
