Description
An impressive large decorative grape basket and scissors in Sheffield plate (silver on copper) dated to the early part of the 20th century this would make a wonderful centre piece. The basket is raised on an elegant pedestal base cast with a decorative rim depicting a vine and grapes; the concave shelled main body also decorated with the fruit of the vine terminating with a central boss. The basket is completed with a barrel hinged swing handle decorated from the hinges to a vacant central cartouche. The piece shows age related wear having been rubbed showing the copper through the silver giving it a warm glow. Height including the handle is 27cm with a diameter of 31cm weighing 1.3kg.
A pair of fret cut and foliate decorated scissors accompany the basket. The scissors bear the mark for Leclere a silver smith located at 56 Howard Street Sheffield. The grape scissors are 18.5cm x 6.5cm weighing 10g. Both items are impressive both visually and in the hand having a good weight and action.
