Description

An early 20th Century model oscillating steam engine with its boiler unusually made from 2 brass artillery shells soldered end to end- there are identifying stamps on the shell case ends (pic 4). The piston unit is possibly by Stevens Model Dockyard, suppliers of model-making parts in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The boiler lacks a safety valve, although an oscillating cylinder will release excess pressure, but it isn't recommended to use this engine under pressure- it is sold as a collector's ornament. The flywheel is particularly finely made.
