Abstract Oil Painting of a Venetian Canal by Thomas Henslow Barnard. Painter, who studied at West of England College of Art in Bristol under Donald Milner and briefly in Cheltenham under James Bateman. He was commissioned as a Sandhurst-trained officer in the Army in both World Wars. The grandson of Frederick Goodall (1822-1904), he exhibited at the RA, RWA and NEAC and was elected an Associate of the RWA, 1961 and a full member in 1989. He showed regularly with the Fosseway Artists and taught for many years at the Cheltenham Boy’s College. The GAC, New Walk Museum & Art Gallery, and Cheltenham Art Gallery hold an example of his work. Tom Barnard was a member of Cheltenham Group of Artists and lived at Leckhampton, Gloucestershire.
