Contact us about An Antique 19th Century Copeland Parian Statue of Venus
A very nice antique Victorian parian ware figure of Venus after a larger statue called 'Tinted Venus' by John Gibson produced in 1849, and now in the Walker Ary Gallery in Liverpool. Copeland produced these smaller versions in the second half of the 19th century.
She is shown naked with a cloak draped over her arm, holding an apple, and with a tortoise peering out from under her cloak.
This figure is illustrated in the book 'Parian Phenomenon' and in Robert Copeland's Book 'Parian-Copeland's Statuary Porcelain'
