A very interesting and amusing Edwardian period watercolour on paper by Wilfred Drake (1879-1948). The Drake family known as Drake & Sons, was one of the leading stained glass painting companies in the south-west of England. Wilfred Drake was a leading authority on stained glass, acting as an advisor at the Victoria & Albert Museum, and working closely with William Burrell in creating the famous Burrell Collection. This caricature depicts Walter Raleigh and Queen Elizabeth I with other courtiers on the quayside with ships in the background. This colourful image is signed W Drake and dated 1905. It is glazed and in its original frame. Image size 26.5cm high by 26.5cm wide. Frame size 50cm high by 50cm wide. Stock Code: 2949.
