An original WW1 ceramic plate made by Grimwades of Staffordshire. Made during the war and decorated with a popular cartoon of the time by Bruce Bairnsfather. The title is 'When the 'ell is it going to be strawberry', and shows a disgruntled soldier eating from a tin of plum and apple. The cream ground plate with gilt painted rim. Bruce Bairnsfather signature to front. The back with Grimwades factory stamp, and the following 'Made by the girls of Staffordshire during the winter of 1917 when the boys were in the trenches fighting for liberty and civilization.
