Contact us about Carved Wooden Japanese Inro
Carved Wooden Japanese Inro.
Five section Inro with intricate floral style carvings.
A Japanese inro is a small, multi compartmented case, traditionally used to carry small personal items like medicine or seals. Since Japanese kimonos lacked pockets, the inro was suspended from a man's sash (obi) by a silk cord, with the cord secured by a decorative toggle called a netsuke at the waist. Originally practical, the inro later became a highly decorative and expensive fashion accessory, often made of lacquer and other luxurious materials.
