Head of Girl Oil on Aluminum by Antonin (Tony) Bartl 1912 - 1998. The frame has been decorated by the artist. The rear of the painting bears an exhibition label from Cambridge, dated 1948. This artwork would have been produced when Tony first arrived in Cambridge from Prague, and was lodging in the city. The influence of German Expressionism can be strongly felt. This painting comes from the private collection of the late Dowager Countess of Harewood (died 2018), housed in Harewood House, and was disposed of in 2020. It is signed and dated 1948.
