A fine vintage 1950's Festival of Britain ceramic plate. Produced by Poole Pottery as a commemorative item. The handpainted plate features flowers representing England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The Festival of Britain, held in 1951, was a national exhibition and fair that had millions of visitors throughout the United Kingdom in the summer of 1951. It was a government-sponsored nationwide exhibition celebrating and promoting Britain’s excellence in design, technology, industry, architecture, science, and the arts. The Festival's cultural heart was a purpose-built spectacular showcase on London’s South Bank, along with over two thousand other locations around the country.
