Description
French 18th century tonneau walnut oil barrel. Exclusively crafted from the Middle Ages onwards. this barrel shaped pot used to contain walnut oil for household use - culinary or lighting. As the oil was the main source of energy to fuel lamps.
Tonneau cask barrel of utilitarian pottery earthenware. Oval in shape and flat to one sides for ease of storage. A very rare piece and is a testimony to a craft that has completely died out.
