Description

Greek Terracotta Vase.
Hellenistic period Circa 200 BC.
Greek terracotta vases came in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, each serving a specific function. Common types of vessels including amphorae, kraters, kylixes and lekythoi.
Different regions of ancient Greece developed distinct styles of pottery production, characterised by variations in shape, decoration and technique.
Greek terracotta served practical functions in daily life such as storing and transporting goods serving food and drink and participating in religious rituals and ceremonies. They were also used as grave offerings in funerary contexts providing insights into beliefs about the afterlife and honouring the deceased.
