Boars played a significant role in ancient Rome both in mythology and everyday life.
In Roman mythology the Boar held a symbolic significance. One of the most famous stories involving a boar is the myth of the Caledonian boar hunt. According to legend King Oeneus failed to honour the goddess Artemis properly, so she sent a monstrous boar to ravage the land of Caledon. Heroes from various regions including Atlanta, Melegar and Theseus joined the forced to hunt the boar. The myth highlights themes of heroism, bravery and the struggle against wild forces.
