Description
A Very Interesting Group of Edwardian Period Love Letters, Photographs, Newspaper Cuttings, Navy Badges and Buttons, as Well as a Bosuns Whistle, a 9ct Gold Locket and Some Pen Nibs.
The Whole Collection Pertains to Ernest Henry Billings. He Was Born in Leicestershire in 1877, and Married a Helen Anderson in 1904. He was a Petty Officer in the Royal Navy. The are Over 50 Handwritten Letters Written to His Wife From Various Ships he Was Serving on Including HMS Cornwall and HMS Queen, Starting in 1906 and Finishing in 1910. The Photographs Included are Portraits of Him and his Shipmates as Well as Ernest With His Wife and Children.
Unfortunately This Story Has a Very Sad Ending, Because in June 1910 Ernest, Who Was Only 32 Years Old Was Fatally Wounded in a Coaling Accident Onboard HMS Queen. The Newspaper Cuttings Included are About the Accident and Funeral, as Well as His Uniform Buttons and a Gold Locket With an Image of Him and His Wife Helen.
