Description
A Jones Spool sewing machine in enamelled black cast iron with highly decorative red & gold decals.
The Jones Sewing Machine Company started in 1859 at Ashton-under-Lyne & went on to make sewing machines for almost 100 years. In 1869 the factory moved to Guide Bridge in Manchester where this machine was made. This is an early one dating to 1900.
There are some accessories housed in a compartment to the right & a storage area for fabric etc. underneath as shown.
The cover is in walnut & fits well.
It appears to be in working order but probably requires servicing to be sure. I have downloaded from the internet full instructions for threading the machine, inserting the shuttle & all you need to know.
I see it as being for decorative purposes such as shop display. My local haberdashers has an antique sewing machine as part of its window display.
Measurements given are for the walnut cover.
