Description
Beautifully elegant this silver plate and glass ice bucket in the typically Art Nouveau form of naturalistic flowing lines delicately punctuated with romantic forget-me-not flowers; all indicative of the Edwardian period dating the piece to circa 1910. The ice bucket comes in two sections an outer body being clearly marked to the foot WMF (formerly known as "Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik") A1 and AS to denote antique silver finish plus 1/0 for regular silver plate. There is wear to the plate as to be expected with age related wear showing some copper through this is mostly seen at the handle that works well on its superbly constructed hinge. The inner glass liner has a star cut base with ribbed sides and a faceted rim; this may possibly be a historic replacement (this is reflected in the price) however it is a perfect fit and shows signs of wear including a well rounded chip and flea bite both to the rim which are difficult to detect neither do they detract from the beauty of this rare piece.
