An early timepiece, barometer and mercury thermometer housed in a cast iron case with provenance dating it to 1875.

The cast iron case in ‘banjo’ form is cast with an urn above oak leaves, flowers and foliate scrolls. This rare and early item can be found described in the Banfield book of aneroid barometers. The case is in it’s original bronzed colour with excellent patination. At the top, there is a silver presentation plaque engraved with the following:

“Presented to Mr F O Kirkland by Lady Beckett, Miss Becket and
the Revd George Dodds DD
As a proof of their appreciation of his services in conducting the choir at the Corringham Church for many years
Christmas 1875”

The clock is French with an 8 day ‘tic tac’ movement. The glass front door encloses a bevelled glass above a white enamel dial and correct period blacked ‘moon’ hands.

The barometer is of the early aneroid or correctly of holosteric type. It is housed in a brass case with original paper dial and reads in units of inches of mercury. It is in full working condition.

The thermometer is the mercury type and reads in degrees Centigrade.

This item has a 3 month warranty on mechanical parts on the basis that the item is returned to Hemswell Antique Centre where purchased. I also offer a telephone service to assist in the set up of clocks.
