Description

An Elliott 8 day timepiece made in London circa 1960.

An Elliott movement housed in a white marble case marketed by Mappin and Webb Ltd .

The movement is excellent quality with machine cut brass wheels and steel pinions mounted between substantial brass plates. The movement is regulated by a platform escapement for good time keeping.

The case has pleasing rounded edges to three sides and houses the movement. The silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals is mounted on a brass back plate together with cherub spandrels.

Elliott movements are superbly made and are well engineered with brass cut wheels, steel cut pinions and thick brass case plates. Timing is controlled by a platform escapement giving reliable timekeeping.

The brass dial is marked ‘Ratcliffe Buxton’ who would have been the retailer. The silver chapter ring is marked with Roman numerals, has blued hands and is surrounded by four brass cherub spandrels.

The name of Elliott has been synonymous with quality clocks for well over over 100 years. In 1865 James Jones Elliott of 156 Cheapside in the City of London, was apprenticed to "Bateman" of 82 St John Street, Smithfield, London., to learn the art of clock making.

It was not obvious at the time, but this was to be the origin of a company that would achieve a worldwide reputation as a manufacturer of the fine quality Elliott of London clock.

The clock is supplied with a 3 month warranty based on a return to point of sale basis.
