Description
This stunning fragment from Khorassan in North East Iran showcases a gorgeous palate. Carpets from this region are known to wear relatively quickly due to the construction of parallel warps and Persian knots. Similar to those from Kerman in south-central Iran, they exhibit a unique raspberry red colour instead of the typical madder red.
The cushion itself is crafted from fragments of a large carpet, evident from the scale of the main border and guard border. The execution of the flowers is incredibly lifelike and realistic, avoiding the common stylized geometric forms. Large flowers surrounded by bountiful fauna and flowing, simplified rivers are beautifully portrayed on either side.
