Description
Japanese Meiji period cloisonné enamel box in rectangular form. The box is decorated with an image of bamboo, birds and oriental blossom to the top featuring a burnt red ground which is framed with an array of colourful gilt lined flowers amongst geometric patterns that flows down to the centre of the box. The middle is extensively decorated in more geometric designs intertwined with flowers, foliage and oval motifs. To the base is a beautifully detailed flower in the centre surrounded by vines and foliage, with a swirl pattern to the edges and beaded rim that is featured across the whole enamel box. Intricate scenes of water flowers and oriental landscapes engraved to the interior of the box. Circa 1910.
